The Shop at Howgill

Funded by the Arts Council Grants for the Arts Programme this 2013/14 project was a collaboration between Howgill Arts and Grizedale Arts from Coniston.

Using the principals of Useful Art we looked at ways to develop and improve the concept of the charity shop. We worked with artists, crafts specialists, graphic designers and a traditional sign writer to completely revamp the notion and design of the shop which sold top quality children's clothing. Clothing that couldn't be sold was recycled into new craft items. Parents learned new skills such as rag-rugging, lino printing and developed extensive retail experience.
